In time for Black History Month, both companies have collections dedicated to the American black experience \u2013 and they&#8217;re stories you probably haven&#8217;t heard before.<\/p>\n<p>First up is Kanopy&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/american.kanopystreaming.com\/category\/tags\/celebrate-african-american-history\">African American History collection<\/a>, a group of 14 films often about contemporary issues at the intersection of race, class, and culture. There are a number about history too: of particular interest is <a href=\"http:\/\/american.kanopystreaming.com\/video\/barber-birmingham\"><i>The Barber of Birmingham<\/i><\/a>, a documentary about a barbershop owner who was a lifelong civil rights activist and held the American flag during the Selma march.<\/p>\n<p>Docuseek2 also has a <a href=\"http:\/\/proxyau.wrlc.org\/login?url=http:\/\/docuseek2.com\/playlist\/view\/32\">Black History Month playlist<\/a>, which has a much stronger historical bent and focuses on undertold black history. The most exciting-sounding is <a href=\"http:\/\/proxyau.wrlc.org\/login?url=http:\/\/docuseek2.com\/if-fin\"><i>Finally Got the News<\/i><\/a>, a film about Detroit&#8217;s League of Revolutionary Black Workers from the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>Both these sites supply AU with some terrific documentaries, and you owe it to yourself to watch at least one of their Black History Month selections.
