Harold Ramis unexpectedly and heartbreakingly died this morning at age 69. Though best known as the awkward and orderly Dr. Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters<\/i>, Harold Ramis is one of the unheralded contributors to some of the most successful and acclaimed comedies of the 1980s.<\/p>\n

As a writer and director, Harold Ramis played a critical role in the production of Stripes<\/i>, Meatballs<\/i>, National Lampoon’s Vacation<\/i>, Ghostbusters<\/i>, Caddyshack<\/i>, Groundhog Day<\/i>, and Animal House<\/i>. His films essentially invented the slob-vs.-snob genre, a comedy staple throughout the decade and beyond. Even through the the 90s and 2000s, Harold Ramis helmed famous comedies including Analyse This<\/i>, The Ice Harvest<\/i>, and even highly acclaimed episodes of the American version of The Office<\/i>. <\/p>\n
