Today the movie <i><a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.wrlc.org\/cgi-bin\/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=13819015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">While the City Sleeps<\/a>&nbsp;<\/i>(HU DVD 7621) caught my eye.<\/p>\n<p>This Fritz Lang film was released in 1956. Here&#8217;s our summary:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Ask mother&#8221; says the message scrawled in lipstick at a muder scene by an unknown serial killer who preys on women. It\u2019s a sensational story &#8211; if it bleeds, it leads &#8211; and a news conglomerate offers a big promotion to the high-level company exec who solves the case. So begins the wheeling, dealing and backstabbing of the competing media hotshots as they vie to unmask the so-called Lipstick Killer.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fun fact from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/While_the_City_Sleeps_(1956_film)#Reception\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wikipedia<\/a>: &#8220;several props\u2014some of which featured a large K in a circle\u2014were recycled from Citizen Kane, which RKO had made 15 years earlier, and may have prompted the use of the name &#8220;Kyne.&#8221;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not a favorite with all viewers (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noiroftheweek.com\/2011\/12\/while-city-sleeps-1956.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this review<\/a>), it&#8217;s still worth a look.
