Bielen served as a staff physician for the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic in the early 1960s.\u00a0 While living abroad, Bielen and his wife witnessed the 1965\u00a0revolution and U.S. military intervention in the Dominican Republic.\u00a0 Bielen recently donated his collection of personal papers and related artifacts to the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Studies at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n
