On May 31, 1990, Seinfeld was first aired and has been responsible for millioins upon millions of laughs ever since. Seinfeld is arguably one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. On May 31, 1990, Seinfeld was first aired and has been responsible for millioins upon millions of laughs ever since. Seinfeld is arguably one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC only committed to four episodes after airing the pilot of Seinfeld (originally titled The Seinfeld Chronicles) the previous summer. Little did they know what an enormous hit they had on their hands. The series ended up lasting nine seasons.

Larry David, Seinfeld co-creator told EW, “I thought we’d do these four shows and that would be it… Even after [NBC ordered 13 episodes], Jerry and I had dinner one night and I said to him, ‘I can’t believe they’re letting us do this!’ It just seemed like we were doing what we wanted and having fun and they were actually putting it on the air. It was a mystery to me how this was occurring.
