I plan to see this show this weekend so don’t have any comment on it at this point other than it offers a somewhat unexamined perspective on early film. The exhibit shows the connections between early film subject matter and that of American realist painting that was going on during the same era. Works used for comparison include the films of Thomas Edison and the Lumiere Brothers, the photo studies of Eadweard Muybridge, and the paintings of George Bellows, Thomas Eakins, Frederic Remington, and others.
