A number of high-profile movies come out this week, including the kid’s mega-hit Despicable Me 2 and Gore Verbinski’s big-budget gamble, The Lone Ranger. Those are all fine and well. But our real excitement is reserved for next week’s Pacific Rim, a tribute to Japanese kaiju monster movies from Guillermo del Toro.

So why post about it now, you wonder? We’re giving out advance passes to see Pacific Rim this Tuesday! The film is playing at the AMC Mazza Gallerie in Friendship Heights at 7pm. Come down to Media Services in the AU Library to get passes. (Sorry, we can’t distribute them online.)

Please keep in mind that these are not tickets. The theater is intentionally overbooked, and some people will be turned away at the door. This is a big, big summer movie, so space will be limited. Show up early to make sure you get in!

Dirty Wars is an upcoming documentary by investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill about the highly secretive and illegal counterterrorism operations carried out by the Joint Special Operations Command. This is riveting material, and it’s a heavyweight film too: Dirty Wars was screened at Sundance and won an award for cinematography.

Dirty Wars is out on June 4, but you can see it today.

Tonight at 7pm, in association with IFC Films, Scahill will present a free screening of Dirty Wars and answer questions at Landmark E Street Cinema in downtown DC. This is an exclusive event that you won’t find publicly listed! Media Services is one of the only places you’ll be able to find passes to this event. Come to the library and get your passes while they’re still available.

We have free passes for a screening of This Is the End for Wednesday, April 24th. The film will screen at the Regal Gallery Place theater at 7pm.

Come down to Media Services for a free pass. Note that seating is on first-come first-serve basis, and having a pass is not a guarantee that you’ll get in. Show up early!
