Tim Curry, famous for embodying roles in cult classics The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York died on August 25 at the age of 80. He had suffered a stroke in 2012 that left him wheelchair bound.
Born in England, Curry studied drama at the University of Birmingham and broke into the acting scene in London’s West End, later grabbing roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre.
It would be at the latter company where he would made his debut as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, a musical that would eventually be turned into the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film is regarded as a cult classic and was often shown as part of midnight screenings at cinemas.
Curry notably had a role in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, where he played a concierge at the hotel where Kevin McCallister, now lost in a new city, finds himself in. Curry also starred in the 1985 board game adaptation Clue as Wadsworth the butler.
A deeply private person, Curry never married or had children. In a 2025 CBS interview, Curry said “I don’t fear death. I try to avoid it. I think we all do, but I suspect in the end, I will welcome it. I think it may be comfortable to go bye-bye, and I want to earn it.”
