Wix is a service that will help you build a flash website, and basic ones are free. They come in multiple templates for various themes (corporate, media, etc.). You basically drag and drop your personal media into the templates, and very quickly you have your own site. It’s akin to iWeb, but fancier, easier to use, and looks less like it comes from a template. You don’t have to know any coding or web design to get started. The only downside is a somewhat limited interface, but considering it’s free and requires no knowledge of CSS or Dreamweaver, it’s a cool place to start for beginners. Check it out!

How to create an Animated Photo Montage

1 IMPORT SLIDESHOW ASSETS
In After Effects, double-click in the Project panel to bring up the Import File dialog, then locate and import the images you wish to use. For our project, I’m importing three folders of photos of yours truly training in the Italian Alps before a big race in Spain and one paper-texture image I downloaded from iStockphoto to use as a background. Note: Though not imperative, ensuring your snapshot images are all the same pixel size will make this project a breeze to complete at the end.

Here’s a great little wiki article in the How To section of Wired.com. It talks about backing up your data as a Mac user. It’s extremely important to back up all your data, but most of us don’t learn this or follow through and actually do it until we’ve learned the hard way. The hardest part is purchasing an external hard drive with tons of space on it – at least the same capacity as the drive you’re backing up. Next you’ll need back up software. Time Machine is probably the easiest option because it comes with the Mac operating systems as long as your Mac has Leopard 10.5 or later. Check out the article for the details. They also list several alternatives to Time Machine and they also mention some online options for backing up your data.
