“Life In A Day” project – a part documentary, part home video series created from crowdsourced YouTube clips–is now available to watch for free on YouTube.

The film, directed by Oscar winner Kevin McDonald and produced by multiple Oscar nominee Ridley Scott is stitched together from user-generated content and depicts one day of life on Earth from the perspective of 25 people living on it.

All of the events shown in the movie take place in one 24-hour period on July 24, 2010. According to an article in National Geographic, this particular date was chosen because it was after the World Cup, but before the holidays. More than 80,000 videos of that day containing 4,500 hours of footage were uploaded to YouTube. Every single submission was watched and considered for inclusion. After seven months, McDonald and his crew of editors, researchers, and viewers had managed to turn over 187 days worth of footage into one 90-minute movie. Read more.

Original Beats is a short documentary film by Francois Bernadi on Gregory Corso and Herbert Huncke.

Huncke was the original Beat. He coined the term, lived the life and was on the road long before Kerouac. Here he talks about his life as petty criminal, drug user and Beat writer.

Corso believed the poet and his life are inseparable. It was a belief he held true, otherwise the poet couldn’t write like a lion, write truthfully.

This is a fascinating and informative portrait on the eldest and the youngest of the original Beats, filmed shortly before Huncke’s death in 1996. Read more in the details section of the film’s Youtube page.

Hey Ingmar Bergman fans!

De Duva (The Dove) is a classic parody of the Bergman style. It got heavy rotation on the arthouse circuit in the 1970s and then kinda dropped out of sight. Now it’s surfaced on YouTube and transferred from a pretty clean print.

Film archivist lostvocals4 has posted live action test footage for the mad tea party scene in Disney’s 1951 animated rendition of Alice in Wonderland. Upon comparing the live action test to the final film, the archivist discovered much of the test audio was used in the final film.

lostvocals4 says:

“Walt Disney often filmed actors as models for his animated features. What’s surprising is that the audio from this crude footage for “Alice in Wonderland” is the actual audio used in the film. When Ed Wynn was brought back in to the recording studio to re-do his lines, the reading was not as good as the reference tests, so the test audio was used for the film.

I’ve synched up the test and the released film with black placed where edits were made.”
